Pasta and Pickles x The city in the city
"The City in the City – Berlin: A Green Archipelago" is an urban planning manifesto by Oswald Mathias Ungers. Developed in a period of socio-political uncertainty, the project responded to the condition of a divided Berlin, proposing a city composed of distinct urban "islands" surrounded by green spaces—a sustainable vision of the city, well before environmental issues became central in contemporary debate. Inspired by this manifesto, the project transforms the table into a radical landscape where food acts as a tool for interdisciplinary action, redefining sustainability through a lens of urban resistance and design. We journeyed from the winter constraints of February in Berlin—crafting a 100% plant-based menu from just four seasonal vegetables—to the sun-drenched Sannmann Greenhouse in Hamburg. This summer edition brought the theory back to the soil through a farm-to-table journey of pasta and pickling workshops, culminating in an aperitivo in the fields. The experience is designed to redefine the boundary between landscape and plate, reconnecting the final product to its territory—a link that often appears completely severed within the urban context.
